Leonard Fred Wenzel

1929 - 2024

Peacefully on the morning of June 15th, 2024, Leonard passed away with family by his side.

  Leonard was born on December 13th, 1929, to Fredrick and Nettie Wenzel in Morris Saskatchewan the family moved to Minitonas when he was 6 years old. He attended school at North Creek until grade 6. He then helped his parents on the farm. He worked for CN for a few years cutting brush and laying down tracks. He also did some road construction in the summer packing roads with his tractor.

   He married the love of his life Lillian Eisner on April 29, 1953, in Minitonas. Farming was his passion raising livestock and planting crops. In the winter he worked in the bush on the sawmill with different bush crews. He also worked for Bill Hart combining in the fall.

    The family was blessed with two sons Kevin and Ronald.  Leonard spent many hours fishing and hunting and working on the farm together with his sons. Leonard loved his horses and in later years attended many horse pulls. He enjoyed giving sleigh rides to family and friends.

     He was a director for a number of years on the Manco milk board. Winter months you could find Leonard watching his sons play hockey. He was the goal judge for the Minitonas Hornets. He was a member of the Minitonas Curling Club and enjoyed curling and bonspiels. He was part of the Minitonas Sportsman Club and won two 22 rifles for having the biggest buck.

       He loved a good card game no matter what the game was. Visiting over coffee with friends and neighbours was a highlight of his day when he semi-retired from farming. He farmed until his 80’s then his passion turned to gardening where he grew enough produce for the whole neighborhood.

       Leonard was fortunate to have his grandchildren nearby and loved watching them carry on the passion of farming that he loved.

         Left to mourn his passing is his loving wife Lil of 71 years, son Kevin (Lynne) children Jason, Gerrad, and Candace (Michael) Hunter and their children Sterling and Jett, son Ronald (Laura) children Anthony (Lisa) and their children Griffin, Wyatt, Isla, Quinn Machan,

Jenna (Reise) and children Penelope and Olivia Machan, sister Evy Nehring nieces and nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

    He was predeceased by his parents Fred and Nettie Wenzel, his in laws Bert and Tina Eisner, sister Emy (Walter) Kulhavy, sister Laura (Wilbert) Karpa, brother n law Irving Nehring

great nephew Evan Kulhavy.
