1935 – 2023

  On Thursday November 16, 2023, Lorraine Genevieve How of Swan River, MB passed away at the age of 88 Years.

 Lorraine was born on March 22, 1935, at the Behl farm near Lipton, SK. She started school at Jeshrun School in September 1941 and finished grade 8.

 During the spring of 1951, while still at home on the farm, Lorraine met Victor How. He was working on a farm in the Lipton area. On December 2, 1951, Lorraine married Victor William How in the minister’s home. Immediately after the wedding, they moved to Pelly, SK and stayed with Vic’s parents. The next winter, 1952-1953, they went to Mafeking, MB where Victor worked in the bush cutting pulpwood. Lorraine cooked for 17 men. The wood shack in which they lived had a dirt floor. Planks were used for a table and tree stumps for chairs. For 4 years Lorraine and Vic continued the same routine, working the bush in the winter, then working on a farm in the summer.  In November 1955 they settled down in Swan River, MB. In 1963 they moved to their current home. Lorraine was kept busy raising her 6 children, cooking, baking, and tending her gardens and flowers.

 Lorraine loved visiting with extended family and enjoyed many family reunions in Fort Qu’ Appelle, SK and Pelly, SK.

 Her love of cooking lead to a career in the catering business. The grandchildren all have fond memories of the freezers full of cookies and the kids in the neighborhood referred to Lorraine as “Grandma Cookie”.

 Lorraine was a life member of the Order of Royal Purple and held many positions within the organization and received her 50-year pin.

  Lorraine and Vic enjoyed travel with friends and fellow Lodge members for pleasure and conventions. Many family holidays and camping adventures held fond memories.

  Lorraine was predeceased by her parents Henry and Christina Behl, daughter Christine Gray, grandson Ryan How and 17 siblings.

  Survived by her loving husband Victor How, five children, Wayne (Donna); Swan River, MB, Gordon (Patti) How; Aidrie, AB, Kathy (Brad) Nord; Moosomin, SK, Gerry (Gail) How; Humbolt, SK, Sheila (Murray) Mullin; Swan River, MB, 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 5 great - great grandchildren, sister Viona de Jong; Regina, SK, numerous nieces, and nephews.
