Mabel Eichler
1931 - 2019
Mom passed away peacefully at home on August 16th, having us three daughters by her side. She will lovingly be remembered as a kind, caring soul with an easy sense of humour, breaking into fits of laughter in the company of those who knew her well.
Mom worked hard all her life, even scrubbing clothes by hand, hauling water from the well to the house and heating it on the wood stove in Rocky Mountain House...never once complaining.
Her passion was baking...filling her freezer and the tummies of family and friends with loads of scrumptious cookies, bars and pies. Mom made the absolute flakiest pastry crust ever and her delicious pies were requested often by all of us.
Never one to sit idle, she would ask, “What should we have for lunch?” as soon as breakfast was over. Same thing after lunch, she would ask “what should we have for supper?”. Her dinners were often the much-anticipated delight of the day during family gatherings...especially her tasty baked rib recipe, a favourite of everyone. We all loved her homemade pickles and jams and will significantly miss all of her culinary skills.
Mom lovingly cared for Dad the last years of his life during his struggle with Alzheimer’s. This took a toll on her, but it never showed. After he passed, Mom would then spend several weeks each summer at her sister Eva’s in Creston. She had carefree times there, the last four years of her life, socializing, dining out and even dancing at the neighbouring friends of Eva’s. The two sisters had many moments where tears would stream down their faces from laughter.
This is the time she would have been in Creston, so here’s to taking it easy Mom. You will be greatly missed by all of the lives you touched.
