Margaret Elizabeth Oberlin
1945 - 2025
Peacefully, and during her sleep, Margaret Elizabeth Oberlin (nee Stubbs) passed away at her home on May 22, 2025 - two weeks before her 80th birthday.
Born on June 5, 1945 in Bowsman, Manitoba, Marg was one of fifteen children born to Charles “Charlie” and Sarah Stubbs.
Marg was predeceased by her husband of 36 years, Kenneth George Oberlin, who passed away on January 21, 2002. She is survived by her four children and their families: Rhonda (Stuart), Terryln (Philip); Kevin (Christine), and Ron (Diva).
She was very proud of her eleven grandchildren (Cassidy, Kenzie, Dion, Samantha, Kristopher, Curtis, Danielle, Alyssa, Georgia, Cohen, Bryn and Paige) and great-grandchildren (Roman, Ellis, Freddie, Clara, Abby, Ascher, and Rowan), whose photos adorned her suite.
She was also predeceased by ten siblings – two of whom passed away recently: Henry died on March 8th and Emily passed away on May 4th. She is survived by Dorothy, Lorern, Phyllis and Muriel.
Marg spent her early years in Bowsman before briefly moving in her late teens to work in Inglis and Swan River. She married Ken in 1965 and delivered their first child in Swan River. Ken’s job with Manitoba Hydro led to moves to Brandon, Portage la Prairie, and Winnipeg, before Ken, Marg, and their now-four kids returned to Swan River where Ken opened an appliance shop. Marg achieved a home care attendant certificate from Red River Community College and began a long and rewarding career with Swan River’s home care program. Over her career, she assisted countless individuals and formed strong relationships with many. Her friend, Katie, was especially important to her.
Marg enjoyed camping at Steeprock Lake and sewing. She was also a voracious reader of autobiographies and kept up-to-date on the news. Not one to travel, she enjoyed coffee with Dorothy and phone calls with her family and friends.
Always ready to lend a hand, to make a joke, or to offer a compliment, Marg maintained many life-long friendships, with Donna, Lorraine, and Marilyn standing out among them. She will be remembered for her easy laugh.
Per her wishes, cremation has taken place and Marg will be buried beside Ken during a private, graveside service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Swan Valley School Division education fund In Memory of Margaret Oberlin Box 995 Swan River, MB R0L 1Z0
The family thanks Swan Valley Funeral Services.
