Mary Aslin 1922 – 2018
Mary passed away suddenly at the Swan Valley Lodge on August 17, 2018. She was born in Hubbard, Saskatchewan on November 29, 1922. Her parents Adolf and Lydia Rosentreter welcomed her, the first born of three daughters.
After the family moved into the Swan River Valley and homesteaded there, Mary met and married Bernhart Ginter on November 19, 1943. They moved to a home on the outskirts of Swan River in 1952. Bernhart and Mary had six children (Mildred, Harvey, deceased as an infant, Herbert, Donald, Elaine, and Marlene). In 1956, Mary was left a young widow from a failed heart surgery for Bernhart. With determination and tenacity and a strong faith in God, Mary worked very long hours in the garden, and raised chickens, to provide for her family’s needs. In 1968 she met and married Edwin Aslin, a retired farmer. He predeceased her in 1989.
Mary enjoyed being outside and working in her massive gardens of vegetables, raspberries, strawberries and flowers. She also was a faithful member of the Temple Baptist Church. In 2009 she gave up her home and gardening, for an easier life at the Heritage Manor. At age 92, she flew to visit family in Ontario.
Mary will be greatly missed by her surviving children Mildred Stupak (Tony-deceased) of Kamsack, Saskatchewan, Herbert Ginter (Denise) of Chesley, Ontario, Donald Ginter (Sharon) of Flin Flon, Manitoba, Elaine Ritsema (John) of Edmonton, Alberta, and Marlene McQuesten (Bill) of Lacombe, Alberta. Mary also leaves behind fourteen grandchildren; from Mildred-Bonnie (Kenn) Matwick of Nanaimo, British Columbia, James (Stephenie) of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Kevin of Morningside, Alberta, Eunice-deceased (Brad) of Kamsack, Michael of Minitonas, Manitoba; from Herbert-Jana (Jeff) Garratt of Burlington, Ontario, and Jolane (Sol) Folts of Toronto, Ontario; from Don-Connie (Donnie) Murray of Flin Flon, Manitoba, Donna (Tahseen) Ginter of Altona, Manitoba and Crystal (Craig) Anderson of Winnipeg, Manitoba; from Elaine-Karin (Sebastian) Hopp of Memmingen, Germany, Tim of Calgary, Alberta; from Marlene-Graham, Ian of Lacombe. She also had twenty-three great grandchildren and even four great great grandchildren.
An evening visitation service was held from the Chapel of Swan Valley Funeral Services on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. from Temple Baptist Church with Pastor Neal Effa officiating. Following Interment at the Birchwood Cemetery, a memorial service and lunch was held at the Temple Baptist Church.
