Mavis Lillian Fullerton
March 1, 1937 – November 20, 2024
With sadness we announce the passing of Mavis Lillian Fullerton on November 20th, 2024, at Benito Care home at the age of 87 years.
Mavis is lovingly remembered by her husband of 33 years, Ernest (Bud) Fullerton of Durban MB, sons; Leroy Miller-Adams (Brenda) of Portage la Prairie, Dale (Reita) of Swan River, daughter Marion (Kelly) of Winnipeg, step children Michael ( Min) of Coldstream BC, Christine ( Dan ) of Red Deer, Alberta, and Marty (Michele) of Swan River, MB, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, sister Lorna (Winnipeg) and brother Evan (Gail) in Calgary Alberta, numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mavis was pre-deceased by her husbands, Harvey Adams and Nigel Smith, parents Bert and Laura Stringer, brother Ray, stepchildren David, Bev and Wayne.
Mom was born in Swan River and grew up on the family farm in Pretty Valley with her siblings, Ray, Evan and Lorna. She married Harvey Adams and together they raised his 3 children, along with the 2 they had together and another child they adopted. Mom fostered many children throughout her lifetime, providing care to over 160 children. She truly believed every child mattered. Later, Mom married Nigel and together they travelled Europe, British Columbia, and a number of other places before Nigel’s passing. Mom met and married Ernest (Bud) Fullerton and moved to Durban Manitoba where they resided on the Fullerton family farm.
During the 33 years of marriage to Bud, mom was an active participant on the farm, harvesting, cooking and canning the produce from their large garden. They enjoyed attending auction sales and became collectors of trinkets, tea pots, lamps, clocks among other things. They were active members of the Swan Valley Historic Museum and volunteered many hours to support it. Mom enjoyed trips to town to shop and socialize. She loved it when people came to visit and had an endless supply of baking for whoever showed up. Mom spent many hours on the phone keeping in contact with friends and family. She enjoyed hobbies such as reading, puzzles, coloring, knitting and crocheting and tending her African violets. We could never leave a visit without a case of homemade jams and jellies, until her health started to deteriorate. She moved to Benito care home in 2023, but it was never quite as home to her as the farm. Mom is sadly missed by all who loved her.
If friends so desire, memorial donations in memory of Mavis may be made to Swan Valley Animal Protection League PO Box 2735 Swan River, MB R0L 1Z0.
