Myrna Yaschyshyn Obituary

Myrna Yaschyshyn

1943 - 2025

Myrna Yaschyshyn (nee Carlson) was born on July 4, 1943, in Winipeg, Manitoba. She was the first child of Valdina and Noel Carlson. She attended school in Winnipegosis. After school she moved to Winnipeg to continue her education graduating as a Lab and Xray technician. As part of her education agreement, she was assigned to work at the Minnedosa Hospital. While in Minnedosa Myrna started 5 pin bowling a sport she continued well into her 40’s. After working in Minnedosa and Shoal Lake on a temporary placement, she accepted a position in Swan River Manitoba.

It was during her first year in Swan River that she met Paul Yaschyshyn and they were married in 1968. Their first child Shayne was born in 1969, followed by Dwayne in 1970. As the family grew, planning to build a house was a priority that started in 1972, and in January of 1974 with two small children and one more on the way they moved into the house that they planned and built, she was very proud to have helped design the house. The project was behind schedule, but the house managed to get finished to a point that they could move in just in time for Tracy to arrive in 1974 and in 1977 the family was complete with the addition of “the twins” Kimberly and Kevin. Myrna lived in that house up until July 2024, unfortunately an accidental fall prevented her to continue living in the home she helped build.

Myrna coached her daughters in ringette and was always interested in sports, especially figure skating, curling, the Montreal Expos until they were moved south, she then focused on the Toronto Blue Jays. Myrna took great pride in her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She looked forward to FaceTime calls and especially when she got to spend time with them in person. Myrna enjoyed watching her kids, grandkids and her great grandchildren looking forward to attending fastball games, hockey games, figure skating carnivals, birthday parties although her favorite was seeing them Ukrainian dance. She took great pride in watching Amanda and Shawn dance, but her biggest pride was watching Kemi participate in sports although watching her Ukrainian dance was by far her favourite.

Myrna will be sadly missed by her children, Shayne (Shirley); Tracy (Dale); Kimberly (Heather); and Kevin (Christy); grandchildren Amanda (Blake) and Shawn (Alecia); Rocky Orange Devil; Sebastian and Samuel; Cadence; and great grandchildren Kemi, Hendrix and Lola; Chase, Rhett and Hayden.

Myrna was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Paul, by a special little boy, her son Dwayne in 1984; her parents Noel and Valdina; her brothers Melvin and David.

If friends so desire, memorial donations in memory of Myrna may be made to Association for Community Living Box 1282 Swan River, MB R0L 1Z0 or Swan Valley Health Facilities Foundation Box 1450 Swan River, MB R0L 1Z0.
