Olga Werbicki
1922- 2025
On January 7th, 2025, Olga Werbicki of Swan River, formerly of Lenswood passed away at
the age of 103 years.
Olga Werbicki (née Samborski) was born on January 6,1922 in Krivchiki, Ukraine to Damion and Natasha Samborski.
Olga lived on a farm with her parents and 7 younger siblings. It was here that at a young age she helped with gardening, chores and taking on the responsibility of being the
eldest sister, helping to take care of her siblings and other children in the village.
At the age of 20, Olga was taken as a farm laborer by the German army in 1942. Olga was kept in Germany till the end of WWII and never saw any of her family in the Ukraine
again, as she was unable to go back.
After the war Olga lived in the UN refugee camp in Germany for 2 years while awaiting immigration. During her time in the camp, she met and married her fellow refugee
husband Mike Werbicki. In May of 1947, Olga's uncle helped to sponsor their new life, and they sailed off to Canada.
They first lived in Hefford, SK briefly, then ended up in Nakusp, BC where they welcomed their first child. Olga and Mike found their home in the Swan River Valley on
a farm in Lenswood, MB where they completed their family and raised their 5 boys.
Olga belonged to the Roman Catholic church, the Lenswood Hall, Lenswood Women's Institute, and Weight Watchers.
Between gardening, helping with farm duties, and raising her children Olga built the place everyone could call home.
Olga’s most tragic event in life was the passing of her youngest son on Aug 8, 1989, which she thought about every day.
Olga and Mike were married for 56 years before his passing in February of 2003.
Olga remained on their family farm for almost a decade before she moved to Swan River permanently, residing at 3rd Ave North, the Westside Lodge and her final home,
the Swan River Valley Personal Care, where she stayed until her passing.
Olga was a jokester to all that met her, and most people had a story to tell after only one visit.
Olga loved her cockatiel birds, hummingbirds and cows. She found a name for all her animals, especially the cows.
Olga had quite the green thumb and spent a lot of time in her garden. Olga was proud of her yard whether it was the grass or the trees she spent lots of time outside tending
to it. She enjoyed bright colours and hollyhock flowers.
Olga was known for handing out money to kids whether it be a loonie or a five-dollar bill. Her grandkids, and great- grandkids especially, always left with some pocket
change after a visit with Baba.
Olga loved her family the most, from her own children to her great- great grandkids. Family meant everything to her, and she was very proud of them all.
Olga is survived by her 4 boys, Borys (Carol), Mervin, Tony (Kim) and Wesley (Cathy). Grandchildren, Mike (Tanis), Joey (Rhonda), Jason, Derek (Carla), Riley, Deirdre (Cam) and
Michelle. Great grandchildren, Adrianne (Devon), Haylee (Lance), Mikey, Abbey (Jeremy), Tanner, Megan (Chandler), Bryar, Janna (Parker), Tatum (Jeremy), Beth (Daenen), Brinn
(Ayden), Dade, RJ (Chancie), Lex, Caylyn (Adrian), Bryson and Deryn (Aidan). And lastly her great- great grandchildren Ellie and Juniper.
Olga is predeceased by her husband Mike, her son Dennis, her parents and all her siblings back in the Ukraine.
