Paul Metro Olenick
1935 - 2024
Paul Metro Olenick was born August 25th, 1935, the first born son of Metro and Katherine Olenick. He grew up on a farm in Arabella, Sk. He attended school in Arabella and Norquay completing his grade 12 in Sturgis, Sk. Following graduation, he attended teachers’ college in Saskatoon. He accepted his first job in White Beach, Sk. It was here he met the love of his life Nathalie Assoignon. They were married August 8th, 1959. He taught for three years in White Beach then decided to head west where he worked in the lumber industry for a year. Once back in Saskatchewan he taught for a year in Amsterdam, Sk. In 1963 he received a teaching position at Duncan School in Swan River, MB. In the fall of 1964, he accepted the principal position at Taylor School. In 1970, he took over the principal position at Heyes School where he remained until retirement in 1994.
After a short retirement, he decided to take up part time work with Manitoba Crop Insurance as an adjuster. He enjoyed this work for several years until he decided it was time to take up camping, fishing, and gardening full time.
Pauls greatest joy was camping at Iskwasum Landing where over the years he has had three generations of family members following. The grandchildren were always excited to get up there to spend time with Papa and Grandma.
Paul leaves to morn his wife Natalie of 64 years, his son Kelly (Cindy) Olenick, daughters Kim Naclia, Koreen (Wayne) Kowch, Karmel (Curtis) Foster, grandchildren Lisa (Kolby) Danielson, Perry (Amber) Naclia, Tricia (Riley) Prokopchuk, Amy (Neil) Olenick, Krista (Steven) Smolinski, James (Jessica) Kowch, Kaylyn (Alex) Barsby, Kerri Kowch, Troy (Paige) Foster, Brooke (Cole) Foster and twelve great grandchildren, brothers Ernie (Joyce) Olenick, Steven (Marj) Olenick, Eugene (Barb) Olenick, Dennis (Chris) Olenick, and Adrian (Vera) Olenick, brother-in-law Marcel (Verna) Assiognon, sister-in-law Rose Matthews, brother-in-law Vern Arno and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by his parents Metro and Katherine Olenick, sister Adeline Devloo, brother-in-law Alfons Devloo, sister-in-law Patricia Olenick and son in law Wesley Naclia.
