 Peter Terekoff

1937 - 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Terekoff on January 26, 2025, at his home in Swan River, Manitoba.

Peter was born on June 25, 1937, near Thunder Hill, Saskatchewan, in the R.M. of Livingston, to Samuel and Anastasia (Nellie) Terekoff. He was the second eldest son. At the age of 7, the family relocated to a farm near Benito, MB. Peter recounted that his parents decided to move to the area to enable the children to attend school and access more amenities as the area was more populated than where they were living. Peter attended Bear’s Head School, and maintained a friendship with the early childhood teacher, Mrs. Dora Kastrukoff, until her passing at the age of 105. Mrs. Kastrukoff, along with other educators, encouraged Peter to continue his educational journey into adulthood. He was able to obtain three degrees from the University of Manitoba and one degree from the University of Toronto over his lifetime and went on to become an educator and later a principal in the Swan River Valley, including Bowsman, MB and Minitonas, MB schools. Peter was immensely proud of the fact that he was able to give back to his community as an adult and share his love of education with the next generations.  

Peter met the love of his life Doreen, and they were married on August 2, 1965. They had two sons, David John and James Peter. The boys were raised with a farming background, as Peter would spend his evenings and weekends on the farm after he finished his day of educating young minds. Peter instilled his love of farming, particularly the production of pedigreed seed, developed as a child in 4H Club, on his sons. He also encouraged his sons to continue with their post-secondary education, following in his footsteps. David had been accepted into medical studies before his untimely death.  His son Dr. James went on to be an Ophthalmologist, practicing in Killarney, Manitoba. 

Peter was predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Anastasia (Bawolin), his beloved wife Doreen (Novak), his sons David and James, brother-in-law Tony Novak, brothers Nick and Bill, sister-in-law Joan (Barrett), along with numerous friends, relatives, and students.

Peter will be reunited with them now, as he believed in the provisions of Salvation of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. PRAISE BE TO GOD!!

Peter will be laid to rest in the Birchwood Cemetery in Swan River, Manitoba with pallbearers being Greg Terekoff, Darren Terekoff, Nathan Terekoff, David Gnida, Steve Wohlgemuth, Timothy Froese, Darin McKay and Jeremy Novak.
