Ray Seib
1926 -2020
Reinhold (Ray) Seib was born in Herbert, Saskatchewan on October 26, 1926 to Gustave and Mariana Seib, who had immigrated to Canada from Germany in 1912. After a full and vibrant life, Ray passed away at the age of 93 at the Swan Valley Lodge on September 26, 2020.
Ray was born into a large farming family, being number ten of fifteen children. He married Leona (Mincer) in Minitonas, Manitoba on April 10, 1952. After living and working in both the Herbert and Minitonas areas, Ray and Leona settled in Swan River in 1963 and raised their five children on the beautiful Tamarack Creek Farm just outside of town.
While taking good care of his treasured hobby farm, Ray supported his family through a variety of employment over the years including transfer trucking, bus driving, logging, hauling potash and fuel delivery. Even in his retirement, Ray helped out many local farmers to bring in their harvests.
Ray was gifted with a curious mind, a huge heart of kindness and generosity, the ability to tell a story like no other, and a desire for adventure. He had many interests throughout his life including raising horses and other farm animals, rodeoing, music, travel, camping, fishing, tinkering with his tractors, participating in countless parades, volunteering at the Swan Valley Museum, and hosting many bird watching parties for local schools. Ray was grounded in his Christian faith, having accepted Jesus Christ as his Saviour when he was seventeen years old. He was a faithful member of Temple Baptist Church throughout his life.
The greatest love of Ray’s life was his family and he never tired of doing everything he could to show his love in countless and creative ways. He will be deeply and forever missed by his family and by all those fortunate enough to have known him.
Ray is survived by his loving wife Leona of 68 years; his children Karen Sheppard, Sandra Seib, Rod (Eileen) Seib, Debbie (John Murdo) Nicolson; sister Lydia Hendry, as well and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Ray is predeceased by his son Barry Seib, grandson Myles Seib and son-in-law Robin Sheppard.
A private graveside service was held on October 2, 2020 at the Birchwood Cemetery with Pastor Neal Effa officiating.
If friends so desire, donations in Ray’s memory may be made to Gideons International in Canada.
