Rose Genaille Obituary

Evelyn ‘Rose” Genaille passed peacefully with family by her side on the evening of August 29, 2024. Her last few days were spent in the hospital in Swan River, Mb. Surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Rose was born in Camperville, Mb. to Charles and Louisa Fagnan on November 5th, 1943. She spent the first years of her life there before moving to Baden with the family. She continued to live around the Baden, Barrows, Red Deer Lake area until she attended KCC in the Pas.

Rose began her life with Nelson “Porky” Genaille in 1972 in Mafeking. Together they raised numerous foster children and kept students. Throughout these years Rose and her best friend Linda Barker were the Porcupine United’s biggest fans and spent many weekends camping and cheering them on, which Rose loved.

Rose moved to Swan River eventually, where she continued to foster children as well as take in students. This is where she remained until her passing.

Rose was an extremely accomplished seamstress and also a wonderful cook. Rose loved spending time in the kitchen making meals for anyone that was hungry. Throughout her life she held a few different jobs cooking at various places.

Rose loved to laugh and visit and will always be remembered for her “tell like it was” sense of humor, she was never afraid to tell you her opinion, which usually always made for a laugh.

Rose was always the “go to” for any and all family history and knowledge. No matter the question she was always relied upon for the answer, it would be a very rare occasion that she didn’t know something.

Rose was the definition of a survivor, having battled through and beating breast cancer. She also battled through brain aneurism surgery, both times came back stronger and never letting either of them bring her down.

Rose will always be remembered for her love of bingo blitz, pepsi and smoking. There wasn’t a niece or nephew that wasn’t called upon at one time or another to deliver pepsi, food from family meals or smokes to her.

Rose is survived by her sister Olive (Bert) Fedoriw of Mafeking, brother Lorne (Millie) Fagnan of Mafeking, 8 nieces and nephews, 24 great nieces and nephews, 30 great – great nieces and nephews and 1 great-great-great nephew.

Rose was predeceased by her parents Charles and Louisa Fagnan, husband Porky, 6 brothers Tom, Maurice, Raymond, Roger, Collin and Donald, sister and brother in-law Martha and Clifford Barker, sister in-law Daisy, nieces Belva Clarkson and Debra Ballantyne, nephew Ricky Fedoriw and 2 great nephews.
