SHARON KATHLENE BARTESKI
1951-2004
Sharon passed away on August 7th, 2024, at the age of 73. Sharon was born in Bentio, MB on January 7,1951 to the late Mike and Annie Sokolowski. She grew up in Whitebeach, Sk. She received her education at Border Road School, Kamsack Collegiate and in later years received her Health Care Aide Certificate.
Sharon met the Love of her life, Richard Nickolas Barteski, when she was 16 years old and they were married October 19,1968. They were blessed with three children Dean, Liza and Sherry. Sharon’s greatest treasures were her three grandchildren Kolton, Jayden and Treyton. She was tremendously proud of them all and loved being their Baba. Sharon dedicated her time and energy caring for her entire family, but her grandchildren held a special place in her heart. Whether it was the first day of school, a Christmas concert, band concert, sporting game or even just a practice, she was there cheering them on.
Sharon expressed her love for others by caring for and tending to their needs. Her ability to cook for, and entertain family and friends, is a thing of legend. The kitchen table would groan under the weight of the various, and delicious, Ukrainian food she would prepare for holidays and special occasions. There was always enough, and if an unexpected guest or two arrived, they were always
welcome at her table. Sharon never allowed any birthday to go by uncelebrated; the house was always decorated, a favorite meal prepared, and of course, a cake made to order for the birthday girl or boy. Baba made everyone feel special and loved. Sharon also ensured that she sent out a birthday text or made a phone call to anyone special to her, its is amazing how she remembered everyone.
For many years the family camped at Wellman Lake, and Sharon continued the tradition until last year. She enjoyed her time there, creating memories, sharing stories, and spending quality time around the campfire.
Sharon’s first jobs included working in the flower shop in Kamsack and the restaurant at Madge Lake. Sharon always enjoyed helping people, and she ran a home daycare; often when the parents came to pick up their children they did not want to go home. Sharon then started work at the Personal Care Home in Swan River and enjoyed her time there until her retirement in 2011.
After retiring, she began private homecare; she took pleasure in her time spent with her clients who became like extended family to her.
In 2012 Sharon was heart-broken when, after 44 years of marriage, Richard passed away. It was a struggle for her, but thankfully she had her children and grandchildren to occupy her time. In addition, she returned to part-time work in the field of homecare.
Sharon later met Warren, who became a close friend. He was good company and their shared interests allowed them to enjoy the time they spent together. Sharon also spent time visiting with Richard Sokolowski, her only remaining sibling. They enjoyed their many visits, and when time and distance kept them apart, they spoke many times a day.
Sharon is survived by her son Dean (Barbara) and grandson Kolton: daughter, Liza (Dennis) and grandson Jayden; daughter Sherry (Trevor) and grandson Treyton, brother Richard Sokoloski, brother-in-law David (Debbie) Barteski, sister-in-laws Carolyn (Lorne) Rezansoff, Linda (Steve) Dunlop, Marlene Barteski, cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Sharon is predeceased by her mother and father, brother and sister-in-law Dave (Janice) Sokolowski, sisters and brother-in-laws Mary (Mike) Ewasiuk, Winnie (Henry) Kosolowky, Edna (Adam) Shevernoha and brother-in-law Jerald Barteski neice Marilyn Kosolosky, nephews Kevin Ewasiuk and Michael Shevernoha.
