Shirley Diane Nemez

Shirley Diane Nemez was born April 21, 1959 to Joseph and Naomi Nemez. She was the joy of their lives. She was a grumpy little baby but grew into a happy child, always taking care of, and bossing around her two younger brothers. She attended school in Winnipeg, Minitonas, Heyes, Jr High, and graduated from Sr High in Swan River.

She lived and worked in Calgary and Winnipeg, working in hotels and bakeries and for Molly Maid Services. When she returned to Swan River she cooked at the Westwood and did private home cleaning for several clients. As her health deteriorated, she began to sell her handiwork. She was a member of the Farmers’ Market for 14 or 15 years where she earned some of her income.

Shirley became a Christian at a very young age. She was an active, faithful member of the Little Woody Baptist Church before she left Swan River and after her return. She was baptised and continued her walk with God for the rest of her life. Her faith never wavered! She worked for Christian Day Camps, helped with Christmas Programs and DVBS programs and taught Sunday school for many years.

Although she never married or had any children of her own, she loved all her nieces and nephews and all their children.

In later years she suffered much pain and discomfort in her knees, feet, and back; but she got out and did what she could. She was always in good spirits, smiling, happy and positive. Never once was she heard saying anything negative or derogatory about anyone.

Christmas was an important time of the year for Shirley. This year she baked 3 dozen cookies for each family unit. Each child also got a small gift. She cared about her family. She called her Mom and Dad several times a day to see if they were “okay”.

She will be sadly missed by her family, friends, and neighbors, and all those who were blessed to have known her. We thank God for the time we had with her and for the certainty that she is now with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

She was predeceased by her brother, Kevin, whom she loved dearly. Those left to miss her kind smile and good nature are her parents, Joseph and Naomi, her brother Stuart (Rhonda) and their children, Cassidy (Jordan), Kenzie (Will), Dion (Rebecca), Kevin’s children, Kyle (Kim), Ryan (Chris), Reise (Jenna), Addison (Chandra), Peyton (Josh), sister in law Margaret (Tim) and 9 great nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Shirley's wishes a private family service took place.
