Obituary

On April 29, 2023, Terrence (Terry) Highmoor of Swan River passed away at the age of 74 years.  Terry is survived by his loving wife Lucille, his two sons Tim (and wife Lori) and Dean (and wife Sarah), his six grandchildren Clay, Jake, Gage, Nyla, Reighley and Blaize, and his two brothers Ron and Dennis.

Terry was born September 14th, 1948, in the Swan River hospital, and grew up on the family farm with his parents and two brothers.  This was before electricity had arrived at the farmstead in 1954.

Terry went to Brierley School (which was a one-room schoolhouse). Even though he and his brothers had to walk miles “uphill” both to and from school, they were lucky to have some ponies to ride to make the journey easier.  Post junior-high, Terry attended high school at Bowsman School.

Terry moved to Winnipeg to complete his animal science degree at the University of Manitoba and graduated in 1969.  After working in animal feed sales for 6 months, Terry decided that working for someone else and the city were not for him and moved back to the valley to farm with his family.  They predominantly raised hogs, but also grain, cattle, and horses.  During these years, Terry and Dennis started calf-roping and team roping at various amateur rodeos.

Also, upon his return to the valley, Terry went to numerous parties with several other twenty-somethings, where he met his future wife Lucille, who had recently moved from Winnipeg for a teaching role in the recently opened high school.  Terry and Lucille were married in 1974 and soon after, Tim and Dean joined their family.  Terry liked watching and coaching his kids (and eventually grandkids) play various sports, music recitals, 4-H events, and rodeos.

Aside from farming and family, Terry was a delegate on the Manitoba Hog Board representing hog producers from the Parkland region.  Terry was also involved in the Swan Valley Ag Society for 39 years, with several of these years either chairing the Light Horse or Rodeo Committees and served for 2 years as President.  In retirement, Terry also served with the Bowsman Lions Club for a few years.

In recent years, Terry & Lucille enjoyed travelling to Texas for better winter weather, dancing, and spending time with friends.
