Terry William Holowachuk
1945 – 2025
It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Terry William Holowachuk of Birch River, formerly of Bowsman, on June 9, 2025, at the age of 80.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne Holowachuk; daughters Katrena McGrigor (Aaron) of Victoria, BC and Tiffany Barton (Mark) of Dawson Creek, BC; stepchildren Jeff Boychuk (Daniela) of Chilliwack, BC and Jenna Schindle (Mitch) of Harrison Hot Springs, BC; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews. His sisters also remember him: Delores Weir (Tom), Ruby Patience (Larry), Donna Fothergill (Carl), and Darlene Morrow (Sid). He was predeceased by his parents, Wasyl and Maria Holowachuk.
Terry was born in Sherridon, Manitoba, and raised in Bowsman. His 46-year career with United Grain Growers, Agricore United, and Viterra was a testament to his dedication and work ethic—one that ultimately led him to Birch River, where he established roots and started his family.
A supporter of the Birch River community, Terry served on the town council and gave generously of his time and efforts. He was a devoted husband, father, loyal friend, and a trusted colleague—known for his reliability and kindness.
Some of his most cherished memories were made in his own backyard: teaching his daughters to throw a ball, building outdoor rinks for them to skate on, and taking the family camping, fishing, and snowmobiling. His love for curling brought him joy and friendship over the years—evidenced by the many trophies and well-worn curling gear still found in his garage.
In 2013 Terry married Joanne Boychuk, who made the move to Birch River from Chilliwack BC. The couple continued to enjoy the outdoors together. They spent countless hours fishing, camping, and quadding—especially at Steep Rock Lake and along the local trails he came to know so well.
The family invites all who knew Terry to join them for a Celebration of Life on July 14th at 11:00 a.m. at the Legion Hall in Birch River.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in Terry’s memory.
