Theodore (Fred) Lasuik Obituary

Fred Lasuik

Sept. 19, 1930 – Aug. 16, 2020

In the early evening of Aug 16, after a lengthy illness Fred passed in the Swan Valley Health Centre with his wife and children by his side.

Fred was born in Kamsack, Saskatchewan.  In 1939, the Lasuik family moved to Birch River, Manitoba.  Fred got his education at Drury School in Birch River.

On October 19, 1952 Fred married Phyllis Mosiondz and resided on the farm, later moving into the town of Birch River, and in 2009 with Fred’s health failing, they moved into an apartment in Swan River to make life easier

Fred loved farming, he farmed with his dad and then with his son.  He worked hard on the farm with his dad, pulling roots and picking stones to get the land ready to sow his crops. Farming never left him, after he retired, he still loved to drive around and watch the crops grow, then at harvest he always worried and hoped that everybody got their crops off.

Fred always worked hard at every job, worked at the mine in Snow Lake, in the bush hauling pulp, was a fuel truck driver and later worked as a school bus driver where he enjoyed taking the kids on road trips.

Most of all he would do anything for his children, he was always there when needed and loved them very much.  It brought him much joy to see his grandchildren and great grandchildren, it always made him happy when they stopped in for a visit.

He will be greatly missed and he leaves to mourn his wife Phyllis of sixty-eight years; his four children, Rodney (Candice) of Birch River, Laurie (Barry Kines) of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Tracey (Kevin Ames) of Swan River, Manitoba, Yvonne (Peter Thwaites) of The Pas, Manitoba; seven grandchildren, Taylor (Kira), Travis, Jason (Candace), Michelle, Ashley (Jamie), Justin (Charlene), Troy (Janine); and eight great grandchildren, Ryker, Nixon, Dylan, Ethan, Madison, Audrey, Jasper, Ashlyn; and his brother Wes (Helen).

Fred was predeceased by his parents William and Martha; brothers George and Ed; sisters in law, Marlene, Dolly and Consuelo.

A memorial service was held in the Birch River Legion Hall on Saturday, August 22, 202 at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Kathy Highmoor officiating. Interment followed in the Crandell Cemetery, Birch River, Manitoba.

In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in Fred’s memory may be made to the Swan Valley Health Foundation – Dialysis Unit.
