Victor was born on February 27, 1928, at Balcarres, SK to Grace and Herbert Tom How Jr. He was affectionately called Bud by his father. His extended family all refer to him as Bud, or Uncle Bud.
During the spring of 1951 when working on a farm in the Lipton, SK area, Victor met Lorraine Behl. On December 2, 1951, Vic married Lorraine in the minister’s home. Immediately after the wedding they moved to Pelly, SK and stayed with Vic’s parents.
The next winter, 1952 - 1953, they went to Mafeking, MB where Victor worked in the bush cutting pulpwood. Lorraine cooked for 17 men. The wood shack in which they lived had a dirt floor, planks used for a table, and tree stumps for chairs. For four years they continued the same routine, working in the bush in the winter, then working on a farm in the summer.
In November 1955 they settled down in Swan River, MB when Victor started his career with Riddell’s Plumbing and Heating Ltd. For the first six years he attended trade school on weekends earning his qualification as a journey man Plumber. Victor worked with Riddell’s for 28 years before venturing out on his own, continuing to work well into his 80’s.
Victor was dedicated to his community serving on Town Council for 25 years, volunteer fire fighter for 29 years, and life member of BPO ELK’s receiving his 50-year service award. In his “spare time” Victor guarded for the RCMP for 26 years.
Vic loved visiting with extended family and enjoyed many family reunions in Pelly, SK and Fort Qu’Appelle, SK.
Vic and Lorraine enjoyed travel with friends and fellow lodge members for pleasure and conventions. Many family holidays and camping adventures held fond memories.
