Walter Sikora Obituary

Walter Anthony Sikora

1953 - 2025

Sadly, and unexpectedly, on June 13, 2025, Walter Sikora passed away at home.

Walter Anthony was born on May 18, 1953, in the Birch River, Manitoba hospital to Anthony and Julia (Urzada)Sikora. He attended the Birch River school until the age of 14, at which point he ventured out creating his own lawn and yard service. Many local residents and business owners of Birch kept Walter very busy. Some other jobs he took on were picking and planting pinecones for forestry, scrubbing brush for Department of Highways, helping build the Birch River arena, and as a service attendant at Frank’s. In 1973 he started his 17-year career as an autobody technician, at Powell’s Autobody, Swan River, MB. He was very well known for his meticulous work. Walter created a side business, Wally’s Used Home and Yard Goods, in which he refinished antiques, cleaned, fixed and sold all sorts of items.

In 1975 Walter and Sheila married and settled permanently in Minitonas. He was blessed with 2 children, Genie and Ryan soon after, creating a lifetime of wonderful memories.

In 1990 he changed careers to become the custodian of the Minitonas Elementary School. 2016 marked his retirement after 26 years, allowing him time to pursue his hobbies of collecting various items like hockey cards and figurines, snow machines and antiques, and taking his dream car to many car shows.

He enjoyed watching his favorite teams, the Winnipeg Jets and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers but attending live games was the best. His heart was happiest at home where he maintained and cleaned his vehicles, kept his cars dusted and polished, fixed motors, cut grass, did yard work and helped with the garden.

He is survived by his wife Sheila, children Genie and Scott Davy, Ryan and Danielle Sikora, grandchildren Kayne, Olivia, Levi and Kyra. His sisters Clara Johnson of Swan River, Mb and Margaret Stillborn of Fort Saskatchewan, Ab.

Predeceased by parents Anthony and Julia Sikora, sister Bertha Holian, brothers Joe Orosz, Alex Orosz, in-laws Joy and William Morgan-Smith, brother-in-law Rick Smith, nephew Jason Donahue.

If friends so desire, memorial donations in memory of Walter may be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation PO Box 460 STN K Toronto, ON M4P 9Z9.
