Walter Stesenko – 1932-2023
Walter Stesenko passed away on August 26, 2023, at the Swan Valley Health Centre at the age of 91 years.
Walter was born June 15, 1932, to William and Christina Stesenko in Cando, SK. In 1941, Walter moved with his family where they farmed in the Harlington district. Walter married Alexandria Slobodian on October 16, 1954, and together they took over the family farm and resided there until they retired and moved to Swan River.
Walter’s main occupation was farming (grain, cattle, pigs, sheep). He also had a well drilling and excavation business, worked for Manitoba Crop Insurance as an adjustor, drove school bus, was a licensed hunting guide and commercial-fished on Swan Lake. Walter was also a councillor for the RM of Swan River for several years.
Family and friends were an important part of Walter’s life. He welcomed one and all to his home and was always happiest when he had company to reminisce with.
He leaves to sadly mourn, his children: Marilyn (James Beer) of Winnipeg, MB, Lorna (Dwayne Stankewich) of Swan River, MB; David of Bowsman, MB; Lenard of Cranberry Portage, MB; his grandchildren: Shawn (Molly) Stankewich of Seattle, Washington; Mark (Meghan) Stankewich of Minitonas, MB; Alexandria Stesenko of Bowsman, MB.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Walter was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Alexandria; brother Andrew; sisters Vera Kravchenko, Nettie Kowalevsky, Ruby Piche, Sophie Humeniuk and Nellie Bonar.
Cremation has taken place and no service will be held at this time.
