To Will
A life Well Lived
Wilbert was born January 21,1933. His Mom and Dad were Guy and Joanna (Nickle) Griffith. Will was the youngest of six children. Will attended school in Bowsman. While growing up Will helped his mom with milk delivery around Bowsman also helping his dad with the livestock when he wasn’t playing hockey, curling, or hunting. After school Will headed west to seek employment at Bralone Gold Mine north of Vancouver. Will told us that was when he lost his hair wearing the helmet underground in the heat. Later he was employed by B. C. Forestry on road construction also worked in Alberta stripping gravel for road construction
Will returned home to work for his brother Jim where he and brother Hugh were mechanics and operators for road construction and land clearing Will knew his passion was farming so he bought land, built a home, and settled into grain and livestock farming, at first sharing equipment with his brothers Carl and Hugh
Will was an adventurist by heart, so Will and two partners bought an airplane and earned his pilot license. I’m sure there are many here that have stories of the rides he gave with the dips and dives making the flight memorable One story we wish we knew more about was somehow he managed to hit some fence posts damaging one wing.
For many summers Will had a camping lot at Whitefish Lake socializing with many families. After retiring from farming Will built a new home and a few years later Harvey moved in beside him. Their friendship took them on many road trips with their campers seeing Canada throughout the summer and many winter holidays with other friends seeking the warm sun of the world’s beaches. Along with these adventures Will also enjoyed snowmobiling and quadding.
For the last year and a half Will had been a resident at the PCH in Swan River where he settled in very comfortably Will became the door greeter at the PCH saying good morning to the maintenance man, laundry girl, head nurse and receptionist. Once all were at work, he went about his day. This was told by them, and they said they will miss his morning greeting.
