William Mateika Obituary

William “Bill“ Mateika

May 13,1927 - August 1, 2020

In the early morning of August 1st William entered into the presence of his Lord joining his wife Rose, his daughter Janice, his parents Victor and Amilja, in-laws Joseph and Karolina Reichert. Brothers Milton and Tony, niece Beverly Novak, brother-in-law Joseph Marek and sister-in-law Helen Mateika. William is survived by his son Darcy, brothers Harold (Ruth), Bruce, Wallace (Ann), and many nieces and nephews.

William was born on May 13,1927 in Lutz Poland and immigrated with his parents, brother Milton to Canada in August 26,1927. His parents settled in the Ravensworth District where he attended school.

While he was single he worked in Toronto Ontario like many other young men from the Swan Valley.

In October of 1949 he married Rose Reichert and farmed in the North Creek School District. Years of many joys, some sorrows followed. In 1953 their daughter Janice was born and in 1960 their son Darcy was born. In the early years he ran a livestock and grain farm. He was mechanically minded and repaired his farm equipment as needed. He did carpentry work and completed the inside of their house on the farm.

William attended the Czech Baptist Church which is now Cornerstone. He served on the church board and helped work on the new church building in the early 80’s.

Dad and Mom moved off the farm to Swan River in 1995. Dad enjoyed going for walks and fishing with his friends. In 2003 he moved into the Personal Care Home due to health issues; he enjoyed going for car rides, meals with Mom and myself. He also enjoyed going for coffee with his brothers Milton and Wallace. Dad resided in the Personal Care Home until his passing in August 2020.

We enjoyed the presence of our loved one, but we all have the faith of meeting again.

Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,

whose hope is in the Lord His God.

Psalms 146:5
