With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Dad, William (Bill)Horochuk on December 23rd, 2021, at the age of 96 years.
Bill is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 71 years, Hazel(Kastrukoff), his 7 children: Sharon (Lloyd Posnikoff), Dolores (Gene Kereluik),Wayne (Carla), Marilyn (Larry Broome), Brent (Cheryl), Lorna (John Twilley),
Glenda, 17 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 2 sisters Sophie and Pauline, both of Ontario.
Bill was predeceased by his son Gordon (1955), father Wasyl (1938), mother Anisja (1967), brothers, John (2006), Bruce (2011), Adam (2011), Peter (2012), and sister Eva (2014).
Bill was born January 10th, 1925, in the village of Smydon, Kowel, Poland; the 2nd son of Wasyl and Anisja (Harris) Horochuk. Bill moved to Canada from Poland at
age 4 and settled on a farm in the Swan River area. The Horochuk family were one of the first settlers of our Swan River Valley.
After his father’s death in 1938, Bill left home at the age of 14 and worked at several jobs including, The Alaska Highway in B.C., and the Hamilton Bridge, from which he provided monthly assistance to help his mother and family.
He married the love of his life, Hazel, on November 26th, 1950. He farmed his land and later became a Certified Mechanic at Powel Motors. Bill started his own business known as Bill’s Shell Service which was later renamed Westmain Enterprises. He retired at the age of 82 years.
Bill was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed farming, fishing with his grandsons, hunting and gardening. In his younger years, Bill loved to fly his airplane and explore.
His last 4 years he resided at the Swan Valley Lodge. He will be remembered for his agreeable nature and his constant storytelling.
In respecting Dad’s wishes, a private family graveside service was held at the Birchwood Cemetery on Friday December 31st, 2021.
