Alphonse Schuweiler

Alphonse Schuweiler was born on December 9, 1924 in Limerick, Saskatchewan. On November 27, 2017 Al passed away at the age of 92 years in Swan River, Manitoba.

At an early age the family moved to Swan River where he attended school both in the Floradale District and at Duncan School in Swan River.

Al worked for Powell Equipment in the 1950s in Swan River and later in Dauphin. In 1966 he began working for Sherritt Gordon mines until his wife’s illness forced him to leave and return to Swan River. In 1969 he returned to the north to work in the pulp and paper industry in The Pas until he retired in 1991 as a parts warehouse manager.

Al married Barbara Petheram in 1949 and was a devoted husband for fifty-three years. Barb sadly passed away in 2012. They had, and are survived by two children, Lynn of Swan River and Kelly (Marion) of Winnipeg;  five beautiful grandchildren, Alistar and Nikki, Tammy, Melissa and Pam; and five great grandchildren, Karyssa, Shae, Regan, Isaac, and Sophia who were all dear to him.

Al was a member of the Masonic Lodge for fifty-five years. He enjoyed his fishing trips with his dear friend Garry. He was great at collecting antiques, and radios to be meticulously repaired and restored. His favourite pastime was spending time with Tammy and Karissa at his side.

He was predeceased by his parents, Nickolas and Martha; and siblings, Della, Lil, Elsie, Marion, and Ron.

A private family memorial service was held from the Chapel of Swan Valley Funeral Services, Swan River, Manitoba on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Jenny Sprong officiating. Interment followed in the Birchwood Cemetery.
