Edith Mary (Henderson) Derkach

On October 2, 2017 Edith went quietly to her eternal home.  We are thankful she was ready and wanting to go home.  Edith was born January 10, 1932 in Swan River, Manitoba. She went to school in West Favel, Minitonas, and in Winnipeg to Normal School.  She became a teacher and taught in a one-room classroom in Bellsite, Manitoba. It was only for a year, but this was where Jesus became personal to her. 

She is survived by her husband Ed Derkach, of nearly 30 years; her son, Ivan Sandy (Anita Perry) and grandsons Nicholas and Mark Sandy; her sister Lorna (Bernie) Novak and many nieces and nephews; Carla Rempel was especially dear to her; and her stepdaughters, Sandy (Steve) Perry and Angie (Ronnie) Denton; and their children, Peyton Perry and Madison (Josean) Quinones and Trent Denton.  She was predeceased by her brother Melvin Henderson, and parents Lorne and Elizabeth Henderson.

Edith was a content woman who led a simple and God honouring life, centered around her church and family. Edith tried her hand at many crafts, everything from knitting, to crocheting, to favour making, to colouring.  She was happiest creating and nurturing. Whether it was a cooking a delicious meal for her family, caring for Ed or making gifts for family, or her friends at Christian Women’s Club. Edith loved, and was loved!

She attended and volunteered at the United Church Women's group, Christian Women's Club, The River, and Living Word Bible College. 

Viewing will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 13, 2017 at the Chapel of Swan Valley Funeral Services, 363 Kelsey Trail, Swan River. Edith’s celebration of life service will be held Saturday, October 14, 10:30 a.m. at Living Word’s Prayer Chapel, 319 Centennial Drive South, in Swan River, Manitoba, with Pastor Ralf Boettcher officiating.  Interment followed at Birchwood Cemetery.
